Leaning Tree Productions was founded in 2003 by Chris McKenzie in Washington, D.C. It started out primarily as a graphic design firm, serving book and other print publishers in the D.C. metro area. However, it soon grew to include Chris' film and photo work. Indeed, the company's primary focus is now on film and video, although it still does occasional design work.
In 2005, the business moved with Chris up to Boston, Mass. The company has focused its efforts on the film project, Indian Girl, which will begin production in August 2006.
Why "Leaning Tree"?
The origin of the name "Leaning Tree Productions" comes from a tree that used to be found at Northwood Lake in New Hampshire. The family of Chris' wife, Bridget, owns a lake house there, and one time while riding in her uncle's boat, Bridget pointed out a tree on the shoreline that was leaning out from the shore, literally over the water. It was a beautiful image: a single tree, alone on the shore, stretching away from the others to get better light. Bridget used to call this tree "the Reaching Tree" when she was growing up. The words that came to Chris' mind were "Leaning Tree," and the image stuck.
Unfortunately, the intrepid reaching of the Leaning Tree finally did it in sometime in late 2004, when the shoreline eroded enough to pull up the root system. The spirit and image of the tree live on in the company logo… and we hope that the demise of the tree is not foreshadowing!…
